Expo Free Tickets

It’s not very often I blog twice in a day but I opened my curtains this morning to see the entire street filled with people. I live opposite one of the entrances to expo and we’d seen signs going up saying “tickets” since the weekend.

There have been rumours in the press about locals getting one free ticket per household and presumably today is the day they’re made available!

Here are a couple of photos, I’m praying it’s not going to be like this during expo itself!!!!

Bear in mind this is only half of it, there’s a separate queue coming from the other side! Unfortunately I can’t see how far the queue goes in the other direction..

Personally, I’d rather just pay than queue in that nonsense….

there was a big push here to get businesses to sponsor/support a booth for our city at this expo. but i don’t know what finally came of it . . . maybe you can poke in a see if san antonio is represented well.

I believe they were doing a security drill at Madang Road this morning… hopefully its not like this every day during the Expo!

I heard that they started letting the families of the workers/volunteers of the expo come in today.

My colleague is going tomorrow.

They did not collect free tickets, today was the first trial opening!

200,000 people shows up… I like this part:

The British Pavilion was closed at 11:30am because staff could not cope with so many visitors. A minor conflict broke out when some visitors tried to jump the queue.

OMG! I thought MJK was joking about the Brits, but it is true. I just love that British sense of order, too funny.

What I love is that even on a practice day they managed to find a stray 200,000 (!!!) people to take time to test the system. Only in China could you find that many people willing to stand in line.

Good luck with Expo Dingle, looks like things are going to be a little busy round your gaff for a few months. You might want to set up a small stall selling drinks, eats and EXPO knockoffs, you could make a mint.

It was the first day of expo preview today – they gave out 10,000 (or 100,000?) free tickets to Shanghai residents to go poke around today.
