Jodhpur is one of my favorite places in north India. I stayed in a family hostel called SAJI SANWRI run by a mother and son. It has a good view of the Fort and the owner was very friendly. I ate my very first home cook Indian food there!

KimC, it's well worth a visit but you need your wits about you! You'd need to go with other people though, it's not the best place for women to travel by themselves!

T, we never made it to Udaipur, we loved Jodhpur so much we just stayed there for an extra four days or so!

@thegreatsage - I arrived at 3am from Houston via Hong Kong, my friend had arrived at 10pm from San Francisco via Paris. Neither of us were in any mood to move on from Delhi for a day or two.

I quite liked Jaisalmer, got out of Jodphur in under 10 hours and decided our favorite place was Udaipur despite the constant haranguing to watch Octopussy.

What is it with you and toilets?

The first hotel sounds cool (pun intended), but not so sure about the 2nd one. India is a place I have never wanted to visit, but that probably has more to do with too many drunken nights in my youth trying to eat India food. The advert on tv for Incredible India looks interesting, but I think I will live vicariously through your adventures.

BTW: Was there life before Dingle Speaks? It doesn't seem possible.

T, India can be a bit much. On the holiday section of my first trip we cut short the stay in Delhi, actually we left within about 8 hours of arriving because we disliked it so much, and headed over to Jaisalmer early (20 odd hours on a train).
Jaisalmer was amazing but incredibly frustrating, you couldn't walk past a shop without the owner coming out and standing in front of you trying to shake hands and treating you like a long lost brother.
In the end Jodhpur was my favourite place, sure it was very pretty but the main part was that it was more like a real Indian town which doesn't get so plagued by tourists, we were never really bothered by anyone!
Hmm, I'll have to get round to posting some pictures from the last trip, it was the days before Dingle Speaks, can any of you even remember life before Dingle?

I wasn't really ready the first time I went to India. I spent at least an hour each day trying to figure out ways to leave. It was hot, I was frequently miserable, people were grabbing me all the time, everyone was trying to cheat me.

But when I got back home and looked at my photos and thought about the trip - it was really spectacular. I think I'll know how to handle it better next time.
